Tripoli!...an overview!
Tripoli ...looking to the north east in this aerial view by Kip Ladage (click for a larger view) is located in Northeast Iowa on Highway 93, just 4 miles East of US Highway 63, which is currently being updated to a 4-lane highway. Tripoli offers a quality of life found in rural Iowa with the added advantages of urban services and opportunities within a 25 mile radius.
- Tripoli has a population of 1,188 people and growing. Bremer County totals approximately 22,813.
- Within a 25 mile radius of Tripoli we have major industrial (Cedar Valley Manufacturers Association) & retail centers in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Oelwein, New Hampton, and Sumner. This includes seven area hospitals and two airports.
- Within a 100 mile radius of Tripoli where we have the Mayo Clinic Hospitals in Rochester, MN, and the Iowa City Hospitals in Iowa City, IA.
- Tripoli offers traditional values for raising a family or to enjoy retirement years, excellent roads, basic retail services locally with plenty of shopping available close by, and excellent recreational opportunities for all ages.
The Tripoli Community Schools have a long tradition of "Striving for Excellence in Rural Education." There is a pre-school program available. The Elementary school serves Kindergarten through grade 5. The Tripoli Middle School serves grades 6 - 8 and the Tripoli High School serves grades 9 - 12. Our enrollment is growing and the school system is housed in modern, centralized, and well kept facilities. One of the strong points is a low student-teacher ratio and we historically have experienced a high participation in quality extra-curricular programs. The Tripoli Community Schools are leaders in technology and transformation in schools.
There are outstanding resources close by for higher education. Cedar Falls is home to the University of Northern Iowa. Fayette is home to Upper Iowa University. And, at Waverly, we have Wartburg College. Other educational opportunities and training are afforded by the American Institute of Commerce, the Hawkeye Institute of Technology, the Northeast Iowa Technical Institute, and the Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Housing in Tripoli is available and affordable. Real Estate listings will generally offer both new and older homes and we have long had a stable real estate market. Lots are available in developed housing projects and various sites around the city. Homes in the community are attractive and well kept and rates for electricity, gas telephone, cable, and water/sewer/garbage utilities are reasonable. There are rental homes and apartments available and, also, low income housing units. Tripoli also has a 22 bed nursing home.
Cultural life in Tripoli is enhanced by the Tripoli Public Library ...with a circulation of 36,978 library materials and children's programs throughout the year. Currently plans are underway exploring a proposed library expansion.
The area is home to a number of churches ...both in Tripoli and nearby in the surrounding rural area. These include the Faith United Church of Christ, Grace Lutheran Church, and the St. Paul Lutheran Congregation.
Local Organizations include ...the VFW Post and Auxiliary, the American Legion Post and Auxiliary, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H Youth groups, the Wapsie Sportsmen's Club, and the Federated Women's Club and other various civic organizations.
Fine Arts ...consisting of concerts, plays, symphonies, art exhibits, theatres, and museums are within a close radius of Tripoli and Tripoli is home to the local Historical School House Museum.
Recreational opportunities are plentiful. In town we have the Action Recreation Center offering an indoor swimming pool, kiddie pool, & jacuzzi, wellness facilities, year round children's programs, and adult leagues. Bowling is available at a new 8-lane bowling establishment offering men's, women's, and mixed leagues along with open bowling. The Sweet's Marsh Wildlife Area offers fishing and hunting, & cross country skiing on over 2,000 acres of state owned property. The Golf and Country Club offers and excellent nine-hole golf course, a spacious clubhouse, and is open to new members. City parks feature tennis courts, softball and baseball diamonds, playgrounds, and picnic areas and shelters. In addition, we have seven Bremer County parks in the area that offer camping facilities, hiking, walking, and jogging trails, boating and water skiing, county forests, and Tot's Lake for the annual kid's fishing derby.
